Most Black Friday pages are written in November by someone who has to fill a list, which is why they read like an ad. This one is built in September, deliberately, so that we can say what is actually true about hunting gear and Black Friday before the pressure starts: some categories reliably go on sale, some almost never do, and the timing — squarely inside most deer seasons — means “wait for the sale” is only good advice for some purchases. Below is what we found, with a source next to every historical claim, and the live prices on our top picks so a November number has something to be measured against.

Key dates for 2026

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. Black Friday is Friday, November 27 and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. In recent years the retailers and brands that matter for hunting gear have not waited for the Friday: Field & Stream reported Sitka’s Black Friday sale already underway on November 1, 2024, and Outdoor Life’s coverage of Cabela’s 2025 sale was still being updated on the Saturday after Black Friday. Treat the whole of November as the window and the Friday-to-Monday stretch as the peak.

For a hunter, the more important date is the one on the license. In most of the country, Black Friday lands in the middle of firearm deer season and after most of archery season. That is the fact that decides everything below.

What historically goes on sale

We looked at published Black Friday hunting deal coverage from the past two seasons rather than guessing. The pattern is consistent enough to plan around, with the standing caveat that a past discount is not a promise of a future one.

Two things stand out. First, optics and trail cameras are the categories with the strongest record — they appear in every roundup we found, from multiple retailers, and the reported reductions on specific models were substantial. Second, the deepest apparel discounts came from the premium brands themselves, not from retailers marking down budget camo. A brand that runs a site-wide sale can cut deeper than a store that has to protect its margin on a $100 set.

What rarely goes on sale

Flagship compound bows. The premium bow brands — Mathews, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech — sell through authorized dealers under minimum advertised pricing, and Outdoor Life’s June 2025 reporting on the archery price-fixing lawsuit describes the effect plainly: flagship bows are not sold online and dealers do not advertise below MAP. Entry and mid-tier bow packages are a different story (Pyramyd Air advertised 20 percent off bows and crossbows in 2025, per Outdoor Life), but if you are waiting for a flagship to drop on Black Friday, you are waiting for something that has not historically happened.

The cheap end of the market. This is our reading rather than a sourced statistic: a twelve-dollar call, a five-dollar blaze vest or a fifteen-dollar knife has nowhere to fall. The Black Friday roundups list small reductions on these because the roundup needs items, not because the discount changes the decision. Buy them when you need them.

Buy now vs wait for November, by product class

The question is not “will it be cheaper?” but “what does waiting cost me?” For a hunter in season, waiting costs weeks of hunting with the wrong gear, or none. For a gift, or for next season, waiting costs nothing. Here is how we would call it for each class.

How to tell a real deal from a relabeled one

Compare against a price you saw before November. That is the entire reason the picks on this page carry live, dated prices in September. A “was $299” strike-through means nothing if the item sold for $219 in October. Note the price on the button today; in November, a deal is a number below that, not below the strike-through.

Check whether it is the same model. Black Friday optics and camera deals are often on last year’s version, a bundle, or a variant (a different magnification, a two-pack, a retired color). None of that is dishonest, but it is not the same as a discount on the exact model you were watching. Compare model numbers, not names.

Read the warranty and return terms. Vortex’s lifetime warranty is unconditional and transferable, which makes a sale unit — or even an open-box one — a genuinely safe buy. Not every brand works that way. A closeout on a brand that ties its warranty to the original receipt is a different bet.

Beware “while supplies last” on anything sized. Boots and apparel deals evaporate in common sizes first. A discounted boot in a half-size you do not wear is not a deal; it is a return.
