Who we are
About Creek Cover
The calm, plain-spoken guide for someone's first hunting season — without the jargon or the gatekeeping.
Creek Cover exists for one person: the first-season hunter. Maybe you didn’t grow up hunting, and every guide you find assumes you already know what a tag is, what draw weight to start at, or which of seventeen “best” boots to buy. We cut through that. We name the one safe-default pick in each category, explain the decisions in plain language, and tell you what you can safely skip — so you get out there this season instead of drowning in tabs.
The honesty stance
Most gear sites lead with a test lab and a wall of “we field-tested 20 bows for 300 hours” claims. We won’t do that, because it wouldn’t be true — and the honest version is a stronger reason to trust us.
Everyone in this category says they field-tested twenty bows. We haven't tested any — and we say so. What we do instead: read the manufacturer manuals, compile the published specs, compute what a complete beginner setup actually costs, and tell you the one pick to start with. No lab coat, no sponsored placements, no borrowed credentials.

Instead of borrowed credentials, we compete on a published, reproducible methodology: we read the manufacturer manuals, compile the published specs, compute what a complete beginner setup actually costs, and cite our sources. It needs no lab, and you can check our work.
Who writes Creek Cover
Creek Cover is written by Stephen V., an enthusiast who is genuinely into getting the gear right. Not a licensed guide, not a “20-year veteran,” not an expert panel — just someone curious about the category who reads the manuals, compiles the specs, and does the math. That’s exactly the perspective a beginner needs: written from the position of someone learning, not talking down from assumed expertise. We’ll never invent a credential, and we’ll never claim to have tested gear we haven’t.
Why we exist
Hunting is one of the most rewarding things a person can take up, and the biggest barrier for a newcomer isn’t skill or money — it’s not knowing where to start. Our whole job is to remove that barrier: get you legal, equipped, and confident enough to go. Start with how to get into hunting or the beginner gear checklist, and reach out any time through our contact page.
Who runs it
Creek Cover is a publication operated by Type 5 Marketing LLC. We participate in the Amazon Associates program and other affiliate programs; see our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy for exactly how that works and how we keep it from influencing our picks.
